Too true.kevveker wrote:Out of all the set ups, for drivabilty, power, smoothness & economy, the Jap su setup was by far the best.
That's why I use the Motorbike carbs. Like the Jap SU's, they are a constant velocity style carb and give a greater "all round" drivability.

Re: Twin DCOE 4G32B manifold.
I've modified the standard manifold so it will fit the Weber carbs, along with making it easier to install/remove. The top pic shows what has been removed to suit the Weber choke mechanism. Why it wasn't done from the factory is a mystery. http://blackman-research.myvnc.com/4G32_WEBER.jpg This shows...

Re: Twin DCOE 4G32B manifold.
The twin side draft manifolds are the same for the chain and belt drive engines.
"Grinding" the thermostat housing has to be done to allow the choke mechanism on the Weber carbs to fit. Doesn't need to be done for the Dellorto carbs.

Re: Twin DCOE 4G32B manifold.
As far as I know, the manifold is the same for both Chain and Belt drive.
I have a twin manifold for a chain drive (not for sale) and tre04z runs a Belt drive with twin 40's in his LC Hatch, so it shouldn't be too difficult to check.
Let you know in a few days.

Re: E85 carbies?
My triton was running E85 through Motorbike carbs. All it requires is approx 30% more E85 than petrol. This is just jetting. As for eating plastic, rubber, steel etc.. It absorbes water and will actually eat the rust out of your tank and steel lines. It will SLOWLY perish rubber, but you should repl...

Re: 4G63 SOHC, PRICE RANGE? URGENT
That's not a prime example of a Starion engine.
IMHO $150 - $200.
With the crossover pipe off and the amount of rust on the cam sproket, it WILL have to be fully stripped down if you are looking to make it a reliable engine.

Re: Fuel Gauge Issue
Hi Dave. If the sensor is working fine but the guage is reading low, bend down the float arm a bit, but be careful not to move the sweep arm away from the contact wire. I'd do it in 20mm increments until the gauge read full (with an almost full tank and on level ground). Allow 1 minute for the gauge...

Re: dizzy qs for turbo
First of all, why have you locked the dizzy? A turbo dizzy will boost-retard the timing. For your engine to run safely, the dizzy would have to be in the fully retarded position, at all times, to allow for full boost. This would make for a very sluggish engine because the only time it would be timed...

Re: cross dressing astrons...
Astron 1 pistons were typically dished, where Astron 2 pistons are typically flat top. To compensate for the dished pistons, typically the Astron 1 heads have a much smaller size compression chamber. What this all boils down to is: Dished pistons (A1) + Astron 2 head = lower compression engine than ...

Re: Cottees' TR/TS EFI conversion guide WIP
Hey superscan I used the wire from the ecu direct to fuel pump primes at on then on when running but unsure on whether it's pumping while cranking. You need to run the fuel pump via a relay, NOT directly off the ECU. The ecu is just powered by ignition wire I assumed voltage drops while cranking wa...

to the IGNITION, the other ~ to the START.
The Negative isn't used.
PS, use the ECU's fuel relay output because it detects if the engine is running, if it's not (ie: a crash), it switches off the fuel pump.
Hope this helps.

Re: Cottees' TR/TS EFI conversion guide WIP
did you run relays for fuel pump ecu and starter or none? If you get the entire loom from the TR/TS Magna, it should include the fuel pump relay. The quirky thing with the wiring is the ECU requires power while cranking. If you just take the power from the IGNITION, you will not be getting power wh...

The US Starion run a 2.6L Astron turbo. Their ECU is for fuel only, therefore the dizzy is mechanical, ie: boost retard/vacuum advance.

All Scorp diffs are Disc. The GH Scorp diff is a 10 bolt (GE are 8 bolt) and the LSD out of an EX Lancer diff will bolt straight in (also the early Starion LSD's). You will need to get the complete diff from the GH Scorpion, with tailshaft, control arms and handbrake cables. You can upgrade the soli...

Thanks Chris, Good find. I had tried the center shaft swap about 15yrs ago and ran into the same problem with the bearing. Re: Matt's Red GN
Have you ever tried TIG brazing with Silicon bronze?
Same settings as AC (but using a red tip tungsten) with high cleaning pulse. You use the arc just to heat the steel but to melt the Silicon bronze.
Comes up pretty good.
Might be an option.
Cheers.

Re: Waterless Coolant
The main thing coolant does is to absorb heat from the engine and release it via the radiator. Water is VERY good at doing that. When you add corrosion inhibitors and other chemicals into the water, it gets harder for it to absorb and/or release that heat, but the cooling system is designed to cater...

Re: is my carby too big?
Hell yes,
WAY TOO BIG.
The carb is rated for 465-cfm (13167-lpm).
At 8000rpm you are using approx 6400-lpm (approx226-cfm).
You would need to be spinning the engine up to 16,5000rpm to correctly use these carbs.
Cheers.

Re: Matt's Red GN
While I agree it doesn't seem to happen often, I'd at least put an air bleed on the front water port, BECAUSE.. Look at the height difference between the rear and front water port, This can trap air, leaving the front of the head without water flow. Even if it's just a small 2mm bleed into the hose ...
