Re: Accelerator Cable on a GC

As far as I'm aware there shouldn't be a difference between GC and GD cables unless the end connecting to the carby is different. When I fitted the 4G63 in my GC I had a new cable custom made as it was a different length and that was done by a company in Milpera here in Sydney called Conwire. I sent...

EOI: 4G63 DOHC conversion workshop

So I've been thinking. Ever since I finished fitting the 4G63 twin cam into my hardtop I've been receiving messages from all over the world from people wanting tips and pointers on how it was done. Now I by no means believe that the way I did it was the easiest or most effective way to do it but I d...

Re: L200 4x4

There's a lot of info on austarion about dropping a twin cam head on the sirius block starion motors so that may be the simplest way to go. Keep the same block and fill it with a hybrid of evo and starion bits and hope that the driveline holds up. If there's nothing to stop you from doing that, it s...

Re: Our 1975 GC Hardtop (pic heavy and epic read!)

I'm starting to get really keen on this stroker idea. I've not heard of anyone that's done it to an N/A. But then again, I've not really heard of anyone playing with an N/A twin cam '63 either. Body and paint first, Then I'll look at playing with the motor. And yes I'm fully aware of the AMG motors ...

Crap! I only just now realised I dropped the ball with this one. Not to worry, I found my old notes and I've taken some quick photos of them for you. I might have digital copies somewhere but these were (believe it or not) easier to find. Its important to note that I used Hyundai Sonata parts for ev...

With your phone/camera in hand too

Are you not able to get the carbs and manifold onto the head when the motor is sitting in the car? I would have thought they'd make it more fiddly by getting in the way.

Re: Need a schematic diagram??

At the risk of sounding rude, good luck with that. I had to work it out myself by back tracking the wiring loom and referencing other diagrams. It was a PITA. When I get home this arvo I'll dig around through some boxes of stuff from when I moved house and see if I can find my notes. Keep in mind th...

I'm going to make a silly suggestion, as I've done it before, but have you checked to see that your plug leads aren't out of order? I spent an entire 4 day long weekend pulling the engine in my Zed to bits and was so exhausted when I put it back together I goofed the plug leads up and chucked a wobb...

Re: Dohc g63 plenum. Which way did you go?

That's the stock Sonata airbox. Galants (should) have the same. They have a large cone type filter that you can get K&N's for but it was a bugger to actually mount in there. There was nothing to really attach it with. I originally wanted to use a Commodore airbox as they're nice and compact, che...

Re: Dohc g63 plenum. Which way did you go?

The guys on projectzerog and austarion often use custom made plenums with quite short runners (may not be the best for NA, they're all turbo builds) but I had a friend who could weld aluminium cut n shut it. If you go through my build thread there'll be some photos. It's not pretty but it works. Jus...

Yeah I've been meaning to write a good how-to but when I pull ths hardtop apart to start rebuilding it I'll do it then. So much easier to explain it when its in bits. It's worth mentioning that I built mine using as many original parts from the donor car as possible only swapping parts or fabricatin...

Rwd water pump will come off any rwd sohc '63 like a Starion or Express van. Be aware though that the water pump pulley wont line up with the crank pulley (the pump isnt tall enough) I had to fartarse about making a spacer and re drilling a different pulley to get it all to line up. You'll need to t...

This is a hard question. For me a great engine is one that stirs emotion. Gives you the fizz that talking sheepdog from Top Gear is always banging on about. Also, for me at least, I like something that is a little bit unconventional. I like that about anything really, a love for the unloved. It's ki...
