And it clearly states that a HOT AREA, (and this INCLUDES an overheated plug ceramic, CAUSED by a too hotter plug) is one of the causes of preignition, which in turn raises temperature. Lets understand that a too hotter plug is ONE of SEVERAL causes of preignition etc etc...........and I never inten...
Re: 4g32GS ?
Yes, that does explain it very well. It explains that this is wrong: These colder plugs will keep combustion temp down to overcome the tendency to ping. Thanks for that, but the extract was for the benefit of "SE Wagon" and "81GL".........................I hope they read and und...

Mopar 340 or Hemi 426. Jag XK 3.4/3.8/4.2 (quite an amazing engine for the era).......or for a diesel......Detriot 6/72 (I agree about the sound, and I've worked on them) Mitsu 4G63GS I had in my blue GB. Factory twin carb version of Starion engine (with minor mods)....torque+revs+reliability+smooth...

This is on page 2............how would you inerpret it? "The most serious result of selecting a heat range that is too hot is overheating. Overheating will cause the electrodes to wear quickly and can lead to pre-ignition. Pre-ignition occurs when the air-fuel mixture is ignited by a hot object...

Just use the standard plug, it will be fine.

According to the Jap shop manual, local market 4G32 belt drive had the same valve springs as 4G32GS (factory twin carb) engines which had max power at 6700rpm...... Give them a go.............

Re: Galant coupe front windscreens
I took my coupe to obriens a while ago and they said they couldn't get a screen for it, they got the sizes out of their book and ran a tape measure over the car and their screens were about 100mm SHORTER than what was on the coupe. To me it just sounds like they can't be bothered dealing with older...

They used to be available quite a few years ago. You may find someone with old stock.
I have an old Bilstein catalogue somewhere. I'll dig it out and post the part number.

Shuggy,
What initial timing have you set in the chain drive? .....Is the distributor working properly??
Which plugs are you using?

Re: axle sizes in coupes vs sedans
It's the octane rating which makes a difference, not wheather it's leaded or unleaded. If you use Premium ULP, preferrably 98octane, you can increase the initial timing accordingly. Try it on about 15degrees BTDC initially. If it pings under load, knock it back 2 degrees at a time with road testing....

Re: 3 Galant leaf springs?
I had wagon springs (complete with diff housings and brakes) in 2 previous sedans way back....GA and GB, and removed the 2 lower leaves. This still has a fairly high rate as the wagon leaves are somewhat wider than sedan ones. These were mated with KYB gas monotubes on the GA and Tokico Golds (also ...

I did see a GA version in Sydney during the '70s when I had my GA sedan.
They are Hardtops hence the "H" suffix in the model number. GTOs had a "C" suffix = coupe.

Dave, Thanks for pointing that out. Maybe the subject line should be re-worded to "GA/GB versus GC/GD" which still discounts non locally sold models.......or does it? Slight revision here... If they are to be in original unmodified form, GB sedan for driving enjoyment, GC hardtop for cool....

Re: GB versus GD Who is the winner
Most people seem to have strayed from the subject line "GB versus GD". This also discounts GA, GC, GE etc and all models not sold in Australia. I've owned 5 Galants, a GA (nice) I bought new in '72 and owned for 8 years, a 9 year old GB sedan (nice) which I owned for a further 9 years, a G...

dwlee, You are correct, they are not genuine items. They were new in a box of maybe discontinued stock. The owner sourced them from an obscure wrecking yard so that the car would pass "blue slip" inspection and is going to try and find out the brand. I do recall Hella used to make lights o...

Modify the present carb to give mechanical operation to the secondary stage. This will make it much more responsive without sacrificing economy . This is a relatively simple operation which benefits all downdraught Mikuni/Solexes.
