Re: headlight conversions
Yep, definitely go the relay path, as you can then essentially run whatever you like, and almost never have to worry about blown fuses again. To determine if your relays are big enough, use the P=VI formula (power = volts x current). For instance, on a standard 10A fuse, you can have up to 120W on t...

It can also be worth replacing any of the grommets and plugs in the fire-wall and making sure the brake lines are neat and tidy next to the firewall... with no engine, you have unprecedented access :-)

Re: Kill Switches
I like the Jaycar kits (they always have something or other, though brands and specifics change over time), as they integrate a number of what I think are useful features. I have remote central locking too, integrated with the alarm and immobiliser, with a double-pole relay killing both ignition and...

Re: Accelerator Cable on a GC
Hmmm, yeah that's a possibility for the cable I guess. Either way, it seems pretty easy to get it altered to suit my car. They just called me a few minutes ago and said it's ready... I just hope I took the measurements properly and the modified one fits :-) I'll let you all know how it goes... Yeah,...

Re: Accelerator Cable on a GC
Hi guys, Thanks for the tips. I ended up going to Flexible Drive Agencies in Ferryden Park (on Days Road) here in Adelaide - I believe they have branches all around Oz, and do clutch and speedo cables too. I got a cable listed as suitable for a GB--GD, but after pulling mine off, I found that the ca...

Accelerator Cable on a GC
Hi everyone, So I just finished a head, timing chain and carbie rebuild this weekend (a bit of hard work, but got the ol' Gal back up to speed! Let me know if anyone wants details...), and in getting things back together, I noticed my accelerator cable may not have much life left, with some of the s...

Re: timing issues
Nice one on getting the timing chain done. Firing order is an easy trap! I did my chain this weekend too, though didn't have the shiny links to align - it's possible to do by measuring the mark on the camshaft pulley to 42 degrees from the head at TDC. Just FYI in case you don't get a chain with two...

Re: 73 Colt Wagon Engine rebuild/ Bay Area
Welcome to the forum! Great to see some OS content... there can't be too many US guys on here :-) Good luck with the rebuild. Something to think about (though it might be too late...) are whether the welsh plugs need replacing (the plugs in the side of the engine block. If there's any sign of leakin...

Re: Galant Alternators
I'd definitely be checking the regulator first; even if it's internal to the alternator, you should be able to pull it apart and check. The only "special" tool you'd need is a soldering iron. A new regulator is much cheaper than a new alternator, and you can normally get the bits from any ...

Re: Galant Wiring Diagrams
I reckon there's a wiring diagram in the Gregory's manual... unfortunately, I don't have my copy on me at the moment though (it and my car are at my dad's with a stripped head waiting on a bit of machining... he has more space than me!). Having said that though, the ignition wiring is fairly simple ...

Re: New to Galants and have a few questions??
Hey guys, It's been a while since I've been on here... been overseas a lot for work, and not checked here lately! How did you go with the 5-speed conversion? I got my 5-speed out of a late 70s Lancer and it bolts right on. Had to cut a bigger hole for the shifter (it's about 100mm further back!), bu...

Re: Battery to the boot ga sendan
Oh, and I think gold-plating in a car is a bit wanky... great for high-precision electronics (okay, but still debatable in audio, due to the low frequencies, very good for digital), but I don't think you'll get much value from it in a car :-) Just my opinion though...

Re: Battery to the boot ga sendan
There's definitely some good points in there :-) I've done some research on the American wire gauge values and agree that you're best going for gauge 0, which is 8mm (I'm an electrical engineer, and we always use mm diameter for cabling specs). The point about running your wires to a separate point ...

Re: Battery to the boot ga sendan
Excuse my ignorance, but what is the dia of gauge 2 cable? You can work out the resistance drop across a distance if you know this... I would have thought anything larger than about 10mm is probably okay. The important thing to work out is the resistance across the distance, because of the large cur...

GC Galant at Targa Adelaide
Hey hey, Did anyone else see the sweet GC crusing around the showgrounds at the Targa Adelaide last night (Wed Aug 22). It was great to see the Gal ripping it up with the best of em, and proudly waving the Chrysler flag as the sole Chrysler in the line-up! Great stuff! I'll download a couple of pics...

Re: hardtop grill on a ga/b
I think the widths of the two cars (GA/B vs GC/D) are different, so it could be tricky. Having said that, it may still be possible to make mods to make it fit! Anyone else tried?

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Well, I think I finally got everything all sorted, and my little GC is back on the road! It turns out that it looks like I had three problems that revealed themselves in stages. First was my intermittent misfire, addressed by changing the electrical stuff. Once sorting this out, the car ran rough-as...

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Well, to answer my own post, changing the plugs over didn't do much. The car's still running rough as, with an occasional puff and splutter at the tailpipe. I'm going to go down the air-leak/vacuum checking path, but think I'll save it for the weekend. It's too hard coming home from work and putting...

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Hi guys, Thanks for the tips. I'll take another look tonight... Just another thought came across my mind... the new plugs I installed are resistor plugs, where previously had non-resistor plugs. I'm not sure that it would make much difference, but I'm starting to clutch at straws here... I wonder if...

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Hmmm, things keep getting more odd... I did a compression test on all four cylinders today, and they came out pretty much text-book perfect. Got 125psi on each cylinder (not sure how accurate my gauge is, but it's fair to say I'm getting the same compression on each cylinder!), and swapped my plugs ...

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Hi all, I've been a bit flat out the last couple of weeks, and haven't had a chance to look at the car, but started work on it again yesterday :-) I checked that the carbie was tight on the manifold and that it was tight to the engine, and all that was fine, which is nice. What I did notice however ...

Re: Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Hi all, Thanks for the replies... haven't had a chance to get back 'til now. Some more details of the problem: the issue is most obvious at idle, and I believe it remains as revs increase, though it's hard to tell, since the frequency increases and any roughness seems to disappear. So the easiest th...

Strange intermittent misfire/timing issue on a GC
Hi everyone, I've got a mostly stock '75 GC, which has been in the family since new, and recently had an intermittent misfire/timing issue, where the car runs fine, but every few seconds, it seems to go out of timing and 'barks' or shudders before going back to normal. I'd figured it was a potential...

I've also done the picking-out of the resin on my side plates on the rear-pillar of my 4-door. The chrome underneath does look surprisingly good! It's a bit of mucking about to get it all out, but can be a good alternative to more resin/paint. The front one does look good in Orange though (and as my...

Re: New to Galants and have a few questions??
Oh and a couple more things... I'm pretty sure that you won't need a resistor on a new GD coil; the new ones usually don't have them (which is good... one less part to go wrong!). Change the condenser first, since it's cheap too. However, I am slightly dubious if it's a problem with these, since nor...

Re: New to Galants and have a few questions??
Hey guys, sounds like you haven't determined if it's an electrical or fuel issue yet... another area to look is the vacuum advance. The one on my GC just died a few weeks back, and the car went from travelling fine to absolutely dying! What made this problem worse is that you could only notice it un...

Re: Anybody Used RareSpares Door Rubbers?
Hi mate,
I've used the Rare-Spares rubbers for the doors and the boot when I changed them on my GC, and all was fine, so I assume this is good. From memory, the lop-sided shape is right, but I'll double check tonight for you :-)

G'day from Luke in Adelaide
Hi everyone, Just joined the forum... looks great! I"m a big Galant fan, with my first baby being a Chrysler-yellow-green GC. Had loads of fun in that car! But sadly had to sell it for my current baby, which is a 75 desert orange GC that I got off my dad, which he bought brand new! So I guess i...
