Re: Urgent help - water leaking from around head gasket
Cheers Davetrees, I noticed the oil filler spot too, but thought it was just the rocker cover. The wider head gasket will cover the head side completely, but the underside will still be partially exposed because the face of the block in narrower. It was a 'running' motor when i bought it. So i assum...

Re: Wanted: your opinion :)
The gearbox mount is closer to the motor for a 4 speed than the 5 Speed. In the manual GA there is no mount further back meaning you would have to do some welding. The gb is different.

Re: Urgent help - water leaking from around head gasket
I just rang up the place where the head was done and he seems to think that the studs are likely, as they do intersect water galleries. and thinking about it, the flow of water is concentrated on where those studs are, underneath the exhaust ports and nowhere else. Another option is the head gasket ...

Re: Urgent help - water leaking from around head gasket
Oh ok, thanks for that. I'll double check if they were all removed but some were already missing off the head when I first took it off so I replaced these.
Would it allow water to flow in between the head and block though?

Re: Urgent help - water leaking from around head gasket
I'm not sure which studs you mean, the head was taken and off and taken into a shop to get reco'd. Other then that nothing was removed. The face of the head was skimmed but the block was just cleaned up. I did not check it with a straight edge though. A google search hasn't turned up too much. Excep...

Urgent help - water leaking from around head gasket
Recently got the head of my engine reconditioned. They skimmed the face taking the minimum off. Head was reinstalled with new head gasket and torqued. Motor was run for a few seconds without coolant and seemed to idle ok. Today I installed the radiator, upon putting water in, it seemed to basically ...

75wagon to the rescue (again)
The motor is running! Only ran it for a minute as the radiator is not hooked up. Really good to hear it.
Should be driveable this week.

Re: Phils GA Galant
Had some good progress this week. Took the head off and sent if off to get reco'd. (Massive thanks to 75 wagon for his help there). Then reinstalled with new head gasket. Also took the sump off and cleaned it out. Massive day today, work done: Installed new HD clutch kit. (First time I have done a c...

Engine mounts
I bought new 4g32 engine mounts a while ago and when comparing them to the old ones the bolt sits a fair bit higher on the new ones. http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/ae173/philb_bucket/DA9DA395-2377-43A8-9964-B8A98019EF75-2452-00000629948171FA_zpsf3ea0259.jpg Has anyone had this problem? I've pretty much finished repainting the front end http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/ae173/philb_bucket/photo_zps21d9a335.jpg Also repainted the radiator support panel and stone guard. I think I'll do the cross member next. Then I'll replace the tie rods while the motor is out and it will be pretty...

Re: Phils GA Galant
Bit of work over the Xmas break. I managed to finally finish respraying my engine bay. I wouldn't call it an excellent job but considering my experience painting, I'm happy with it and it looks a hundred times better than what it was. Just have to clean up a bit of overspray on brake lines etc. http...

Re: Phils GA Galant
Anyone here used galmet 'ironize' rust converter and sealer before?
It's a milky solution and once dry, turns the surface black which can be painted over.
It seems to work a lot better than other converters I've used. Good for the hard to reach places where sanding is difficult.

Re: Phils GA Galant
Continued treating the surface rust in the engine bay. Bit more extenisive then I thought, in hard to get to areas. I have been sanding, using rust converter then primering. Re: Phils GA Galant
Been a bit quiet on the galant, trip to europe slowed things down, but im back into it and the work is continuing. 1st priority is re-painting the engine bay. The battery had leaked at some stage causing surface rust all around the battery tray. Sanded, treated and primered it ready to topcoat http:...

Cheers Dave.
I have a borrowed pressure washer atm. Can't seem to get that scale off with it, but a light sand has been doing the trick.
Gettin there 1 day at a time.
