Re: 1979 Datsun Scorpion
Drag racing is very scientific, a huge engineering feat in maintaining the entire power trains together with so much energy being released all at once. The drivers are incredibly courageous, the teams highly skilled. The whole sport (in the USA at least) is well funded, professionally run and greatl...

Re: Astron running lean
Hi Jason, looking at the original complaint "Took it for a little run (30ks maybe) and started to miss and temp up to 3/4" these symptoms also describe the ignition being too far advanced.
I assume this has been double checked?

That orange one is cool, but there is a reason they are not turned into race cars. The understeer is killer!

What sort of race car would you make out of a Scorpion, they only go in a straight line.
I have never heard of a Scorpion race car?
In saying that good luck with the build and I would love to see photos

I have been using John at Heath Street Crash for paint and panel for over 15 years. Currently he is repairing my daughter's car.
My Dad has even taken his cars (such as his Rolls Royce) to Heath Street Crash.

Re: JV's Yellow GH Scorp
Today I went to swap the rear muffler over with the spare off the red GK I once had. Only the exhaust on the GH has been modified and welded together right up to the down pipe! Luckily I have some extractors and also another down pipe. Rear muffler and middle muffler now different configuration to o...

Re: Tool Kits...
I do own a leather bound vintage car tool kit, with tyre levers, stilsons, screwdrivers, hammer, open ended spanners etc... But it lives locked in the shed. If I remember to do so I will put it in the boot on club runs just as a talking point. Not sure the imperial spanners will work on anything on ...

Re: Tool Kits...
I carry the genuine tool kit that came with the Scorpion, and an RAA card. While I am a qualified mechanic, and could probably rebuild the car on the side of the road, the general reason I drive the car is not to have to work on it on the side of the road. Therefore if some road side maintenance is ...

I would probably stay with a 2.5TD so the cc's do not increase for rego.
I have my Diesel Ticket although I have not used it in twenty years.
Surprised you didn't mention the Caravan is called a "Drifter".

Re: 1979 Datsun Scorpion
I am thinking about putting a more economical and powerful diesel motor into my Scorp. I only cruise, no racing, and I tow a caravan sometimes, only to watch racing and make a weekend of it though (bit hard to sleep in the Scorp) http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s370/jvflash/GK%20Scorpion%20Red/S...

Enough girls, you are both pretty. Now, Monk please keep this post updated, I am keen to see what you make of it. I put a Ford motor into a classic 1960 Merc 220S, no one complained about that, instead I received enquiries about how easy it was, how did it go etc... Having had several Dattos, such a...

Re: pedal goes to the floor on the first pump?
Brake master cylinders have dish shaped seals in them that actuate the primary and secondary hydraulics. A combination of fluid pressure and piston force, force the edge of the seal against the cylinder wall. The dish shaped seals wear on the edges and when that happens slow pressure on the pedal al...

Re: engine wont turn over
Could be the brushes in the starter are sticking. Try gently giving the side of the starter a tap (not hit) with a hammer. This is usually enough to vibrate the brushes out of the housing a bit further. This was how I had to start my Ford Capri for weeks before I could afford a reco starter, that wa...

Re: Scorpion factory graphics
As the Scorpion is not local product, and the Japanese would not have badged it (as there were various badges for it) it would have been badged POE. I have had 4 scorpions 3 of them 1982 GK's all had different striping. When I worked at MMAL I checked out the Scorpion model codes, there were no spec...

Re: JV's GK Scorp AKA Bitsamissing - SOLD
So this photo may help explain some of the twist on the chassis I was experiencing on the red GK! GB_BBC discovered this sizeable tear in through the metalwork when he removed the RHF guard from the donor red Scorpion I had previously been driving around in. :o http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s3...

Re: JV's GK Scorp AKA Bitsamissing
Thanks to GB_BBC the panels from the red scorpion are now in place on the white scorpion. Only issue now is the rust on the plenum, which after wire brushing turns out to be worst than first thought :banh: http://i1048.photobucket.com/albums/s370/jvflash/GK%20Scorpion%20White/IMG_5804_zps269badbe.jp...
