Newcastle cruise

As most of you know, I'm moving to Melbourne in a few weeks. I'm thinking a local cruise would be good before I leave, to catch up with everyone before I head off. Maybe around Newcastle, out to Morpeth or dungog? I'm open to options for routes etc. BBQ and a few beers somewhere. Date - I'm thinking...

Re: Phils GA Galant

Cheers Dave, Definitely a bit of a F$%*k fixing the issues with the motor. Its running pretty well now, i installed a choke today to help with cold starts. It has a wicked flat spot on intitial acceleration, may be a vacuum leak or jetting problem. But it has really good pull once you get past that....

Re: Phils GA Galant

I think it is a crossover type, it's a lynx manifold, there are a couple of photos a few posts up. It looks like the manifold directs the left throat of the carb to the two middle cylinders, which are the ones giving me trouble. I pulled out the main and idle jets today and they looked ok. Sounds a ...

Re: Phils GA Galant

So this morning the problem got worse again. Barely idling, little power at all and wont rev over 3500 rpm. Basically running on 2 cylinders. Tonight took the plugs out and cleaned them, same thing cylinders 2 and 4 black as. I checked the dizzy cap, swapped it and still little or no difference. I d...

GA Galant Lights - Compatibility with other models

I've heard a rumour that the headlights from GA galants are the same as a model of the ford bronco or f250? in the states. Can anyone confirm this is correct? Or any other car. Upon searching the net, the only common square headlight i can find is a 7"x6" light. The GA head light seems to ...

Re: Phils GA Galant

So the car has been on the road for a week now. After a few minor hiccups with the alternator failing big time and one of the socks on the carb sucking into the motor and choking two cylinders. This week i have been sorting a few niggling issues like earths etc to get the electrics ok. Everything se...

Re: Windsor to Wisemans 24/3/2013 (joint Datsun cruise) pics

Awesome day, minus a short fright on the way home. Driving along the freeway next to a 4wd, heard a massive bang followed by thick smoke. Thought for a second the old girl had blown on its maiden voyage, but I was relieved to look next to me and see the 4wd had blown a tyre, pretty spectacularly, it...

Re: Phils GA Galant

Just a quick update, will make a full post on the progress later. After various hiccups, some more serious then others, the galant passed a blue slip! So happy! Massive few days from 75wagon (Dave) with help from 77galantv6 (dean) and Dan. Unfortunately I missed helping Dave a bit due to moving hous...

Leaking from around the rear main housing and sump joint.

Took it all off and used silicone. Seems to be good now.

Re: Phils GA Galant

I had a look at the back of the head and it all looks fine. I noticed the old rear main seal did look ok, but the gasket on the housing was pretty shagged. It's collecting on the lip of the bottom of the gearbox and dripping. It seemed oily around the back corner of the sump. It may be around where ...

Re: Phils GA Galant

Well I'm pretty gutted. Spent the best part of 2 days in my shitty shed replacing the rear main seal and sump. Only to run it today and its still leaking. It's dripping from the bottom of the gearbox and is definitely motor oil. It might be running down from the corner of the sump but I can't be sur...

Re: Phils GA Galant

Yeah I managed to take the sump out by just raising the motor a little. May have been a bit premature with the prognosis though. After really getting in there I think it is the rear main seal that is leaking. It looks like oil is coming down out of the back of the motor it may have been getting arou...

Re: Phils GA Galant

Ahhhh good news.

I got under and had a closer look. It's actually coming from the back of the sump and running down.
I mustn't of sealed the sump up well enough when I put it back on.

At least it's not the rear main seal, but it still might be a bit of a pain to fix...

If it did I didn't notice it, but I also didn't run it for long.
Could it improve when the motor fully heats up and runs in?

Not sure where to go from here...

Re: Phils GA Galant

So I've had some issues this week which I have posted in another thread. In short I had to take the head off to get a water port which did no match with the block blocked off. Turns out the head is off a later model then the block. The head is back on and hooked up the radiator and ran the motor tod...
