My GE apparently had a Jap instrument panel originally, but when I bought one with a tacho it was the "Aussie" version and needed new temp and fuel senders.

Forgive me for asking what is possibly an obvious question (and when I'm a bit pissed too) but what happened to the head bolts that held your head on in the first place?

Buy the "more expensive" flasher can. Sorry, can't be more specific than that, but I went through two cheapies in 6 months before forking out about $12 (quite a bit 20 years ago!) for one which has lasted all this time.

Re: GE differences
Hey everyone, Mine started life as the poverty-pack Galant, vinyl trim, no centre console (shifter straight through carpet), etc, but when I bought it in '91 it already had been swapped to a 2.0 l + Jap 5 speed. Bought a GH SE (with green velour trim) one day for parts and stuck the whole interior i...

Re: Heater control thingys..
Is it the temperature/heat one that's stuck? If so, the little alloy tap in the hot water line to the left of the heater core will be seized. The others... yeah, the little clamp things should be able to be just put back on. It's not that bad getting the centre section of dash out anyway, should you...

Re: Heater control thingys..
Are you sure they're broken? They are held each end by a sprung or screw down clamp on the cable sheath. If that's come loose (or popped off in the case of the sprung ones) then the whole thing moves rather than just the cable. Check that first. If you do have to check the end attached to the contro...

Quick price question
Hi there knowledgeable people.
I have the green GH struts in my GE. It needs new front strut inserts. I'm getting quoted anywhere between $150 and $280 for a pair.
Could someone please give me an estimate of which ballpark I should be in?
Thank you all.
Cam

Can I add to this thread with a query about the vacuum secondary? How do I know it's working? Can I rev the engine whilst looking down the throat and see it open at certain revs, or is it load dependent and only opens when the engine is under load whilst driving? Re: Plastic bit on end of gear stick
Yes, I need one too! That's the culprit for the shifter "rattle" under load, yes? When I changed the box oil I was fishing little bits of plastic out - I assumed there was something supposed to be on the end which had disintegrated years ago. I'm sorely tempted to try the garden hose idea....

I used to have Yokies - 205/60/15 all 'round and they looked awesome. Just fitted on the front - oodles of room on the back. Steering was noticeably heavier at parking speeds though.

You've broken the GSR boys' hearts with the swiss cheese/pepperpot comment. :( I do tend to agree though. Good luck with the car - I know all about trying to fix stuff up on a budget. It tends to be more about prolonging roadworthiness rather than performance. Oh, and tell your Dad the exhaust tip h...

Retested with someone else kicking it over and me watching the gauge...
150 psi on all pots, or near enough. So, nothing special, but not completely stuffed either I s'pose.

I doubt it... the belt anchors are seriously strengthened, and the parcel shelf, although folded, is not that strong.

Re: woodgrain... yay or nay?
Yep, finish can be applied before installation - I'd recommend that. The veneer is just too thin to apply with contact cement - you'll end up with ripples all over it, and probably end up with the veneer cracking as you try to smooth them out. As I said, ply comes pretty thin, but will be more stabl...

Re: woodgrain... yay or nay?
Well, you can get 1.5mm or 2mm ply. Is that too thick?
The veneer is only 0.5 or 0.6mm on top of that.
I'll have a hunt around over the weekend and send you a test strip if you like?
