Re: Gd galant fuel sender

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Can't see any model numbers in my manuals... though I'm guessing that since this was a while ago (it's been a while since I've been online!), you may have already found a replacement? Did you find a newbie or went to a wreckers?

Re: problem with carb or hydrovac?

Hmmm, I'd be leaning towards a possible timing advance/retard issue, since the problem happens at start and when running. Have you confirmed you have the right timing (5 deg btc)? This would be the first thing I'd check. If the vac advance had issues, it's more likely you'd experience problems when ...

Re: A57 Stripe For GD Sedan

Hmmm, I'm not sure how I managed this, but I intended to reply to this post, but somehow posted it to a related post, also about A57 stripes on a GD... Anyway, here's my response, which isn't an image, but you may find the post useful: http://www.sigma-galant.com/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=10341#p1115...

Re: sports pack stripes ?

I have GD sports pack stripes on my GC, which were initially put on my car back in the 70s when my dad had it. The stickers did fade with age, and there's always the tear and bubble risk. So when I got the paintwork redone a few years ago, I got the stripes painted on. The advantage is it's as gloss...

Personally, I like 13"s, cos they're not so common these days, and even with modest spec tyres, they look fat! But 14"s do look cool too...

It's probably be worth checking with an engine rebuild place, as they may either have the parts, or know where to look... In Tassie I'm not too sure!

Yep, definitely look at the voltage reg first, and check over the connections too, since it could be something loose or dodgey there. Good luck... hopefully it's an easy one for you to find! Good luck!

Re: GA galant radiator?

You'll often find that radiatior shops will have access to a catalogue of bits and pieces with pictures and info, and they can match one up for you, possibly even out of a much more modern car. And for the sake of interest, my GC has a Siggy radiator (which is a fair bit bigger) with a thermo fan, w...

Hey Jono, I've been meaning to reply to this one for a while... I normally check the forum at work (I'm too lazy at home!), but they disabled YouTube (yay!) so I couldn't check your vids. The dramas you're having are actually quite similar to some stuff that's going on with my gal at the moment. The...

Re: GC Galant Lights (single lights)

Good move :-) I can't quite remember where I got my lights/lenses from, possibly from a later-model Lancer, but I would imagine it should be easy to find a round driving light casing that would fit as a replacement. But definitely do it... much better than the old-school sealed beams!

Re: 4G32 Electronic dizzy

As for the igniter, you can actually build one. There was one in Silicon Chip many, many years ago, which does seem to work well. I have it on my points dizzy, although we did experience some issues... it had problems starting up when the engine was cold. At the time, we couldn't figure out a good s...

Re: Galant in the Targa Tasmania!

You do get a lot of questions and confused looks, often at car shows too (since I'm less sporting, I have more experience with the show and shine thing than with sports events!), or even just driving around. But people are always interested, and you get positive remarks from the Datsun and Mazda guy...

Re: Electrics - Indicator modification..

Okay, legalities aside, there are a few practical considerations here. From memory, the park light circuit is set up that left and right are in the same circuit, although the fact that JDM cars apparently had a left/right control switch for parkers suggests that they may be on separate circuits, whi...

Re: Refittiing upper control arms pn a montero

Classic to see a reference to a Montero here... and more surprising it's from Holland. I always thought the Montero was the Pajero re-badge for Spanish speakers, since pajero (pronounced pah-herro) is rather rude en español :)

Re: Earth lead

That's right, it doesn't matter too much, since the whole thing is earthed. From memory, I run mine with nice fat gauge to the block, as the main think that pulls current is the starter. But really it doesn't matter, since that's the whole idea of "earth" :)

Re: Alternator for GC galant

Classic! I guess they don't want to commit to anything before seeing what they're up against. Really, it's just a matter of giving them the alternator (so they can match up the casing, etc), and telling them the amperage you want. If you can't get the car to them, they should be able to work with th...

Re: Alternator for GC galant

I second that... you can always get something from an auto sparky. Mine's been upgraded to a 55A unit, which is a nice improvement on the original, but you can of course go much bigger, depending on what you're planning on running. It's worthwhile thinking about the kind of load you want to pull (an...

Well, at least it seems to confirm the theory that you only need three wires! Don't know why they've run the extra two up there though... As for where the can plugs in, I vaguely recall it's somewhere under the dash towards the fuse box, but I could be well wrong. It's been around 15 years since I l...
