Re: [SA] Event's and Cruises
Damn, just got back from OS and missed this... definitely next time tho! Hopefully I'll make the Jap day, but it's the same day as WOMAD, so my inner hippie will be busy battling it our with my inner petrol-head...

Ha ha, too true Jason... in my opinion, fast car or otherwise, corners are more fun too. Even (especially!) in massive RWD muscle cars

Re: Fuel/temp gauge not working and CHG light
Yeah, a fuse would be the first thing to check for sure. After that, check the voltage on the battery with the car running (and make sure it's north of 13V at least), which will tell you if there are any issues with the alternator or regulator

Oh, and it probably depends on the colour of the vinyl too :-) Remember, black goes with everything!

Re: Keep or remove vinyl roof?
Rust is the obvious downside, though if you're careful, it doesn't have to be a big threat. Depends how often you drive your car in the wet. I'm not a huge fan of the vinyl roof personally, but I do think they can look good on a period car (with period-style mods). They look great on Monaros and 60s...

Re: Ga To GC floor pans
I've never measured myself, but Knox Auto Carpets has a different listing for GA/GB, and GC/GD, so apart from the obvious differences (I'd have guessed that the GC/GD is both longer and wider), I'd say they're sufficiently different enough. If you're after carpets, I had a good experience with Knox....

Not too sure about that... but I'm sure you'd be able to make mods to make anything fit pretty much anything without too much effort. Good luck!

Any cover over the speakers is a good thing (even if it's just the standard mesh or plastic one that comes with the speakers), and if you're not a venetians fan (which I'm not, to be honest!), I find that a rear window louvre, such as I have (sadly no pics on me at the moment, but I'll take one toni...

Re: Car wont turn off with ignition and Brake Warning Light
So when you turn the key off, does the car continue to run for a bit and then turn off, or does it just continue to run (in which case, how are you turning it off?). As Geezer says, I'd be checking the switch (you can test the contacts with a multimeter set to continuity, if you have one), and make ...

Re: 4G32
I use Tectaloy, normally 60 Plus (I use Gold in my HJ Galant), and it runs pretty well. My dad recently switched to Genuine Mitsubishi in his VR4, but I'm happy to stick with the Tectaloy. The car's run Tectaloy most of it's 38 year life, and I've never had any corrosion problems.

Yeah, that's it... it'll be a sad day to see the skills slowly disappear from the country. So many people say that we shouldn't be manufacturing, and should focus our energies on the sciences and research, but as someone who works in a technological field (and can be regarded a scientist, though eng...

Hmm, fun times! If it is something like the valve stem seals, it's not too hard to get sorted out, and doesn't take too long... though without another car, any time is too long, really!

Either way, the most important thing to check will be that the flywheel actually fits and that the starter motor gear has the same teeth spacing and pitch, etc, otherwise the swap might be a short-lived exercise :-)

I have four Sony 6", two up front, two in the back parcel shelf, running straight off an old Sanyo head, and it's all fairly decent. The front speakers are in the doors, which as stated earlier is a shame since you have to cut the door skins, but that was they way things went in the early 80s w...

And with the fuel flow, there's a small window on the front of the carbie, near the accelerator pump... you should see it roughly half full of fuel (not completely full, and not empty either).
Good luck!

Re: 4G32 1600 Flat spot -running problems
It all depends whether the points and (especially) the condenser have been replaced... it depends on how thorough the recon job on the dizzy was. I'd be inclined to think the condenser may not have been replaced... But in any case, I would concentrate more heavily on the carby side of things. Check ...

Hairline crack sounds nasty... Hope you sort it out soon! Just on that suction line on top of the rocker cover, once we overtightened the bolt and I think the brass tube was a bit close to the oil in the head, and boy did it suck up plenty of oil. After installing some new rings, the car was blowing...

Re: Your Boot
I haven't done anything special, but my first suggestion of rust-proofing is to make sure any leaks are gone. I've often noticed small holes at the seams in the section just below the rear window in my various Galants, in the body that's under the top corners of the boot lid when it's closed. Defini...

Re: Oil in intake manifold
Hmmm, no I wouldn't have thought there'd be an issue of leaking through the stems, not into the inlet anyway. Is it definitely oil in there, and not some other fluid (gasket goo/water/some mix of the above?) The only thing I would have thought is the suction line pulling from the top of the rocker c...

Re: Gh sigma 5 speed to 4g32
Not that I'm adding much here, but my 5-speed is from a Jap Lancer and was an easy swap (once the hole for the shifter was cut).
If the flywheel and clutch fits, then it shouldn't matter much. But isn't the problem that one is four stud and another five?
Good luck either way!

HJ Timing Belt Mammoth Effort
Hi all, I know we don't normally talk about the more modern Mitsi's here, but just wanted to say I just finished doing the timing belt on my 1994 HJ Galant (it is still a Galant, after all!), 6A12, and it was a mammoth effort, though something entirely doable. Changed the water pump, which was dead,...

Hey guys, I also used Knox, and found them to be quite good (I bought the GC listing). The carpet is good quality, and while it is oversize, it does actually fit quite well. As Jason mentions though, carpet trimming is a tough job, and while I am happy with mine, it is easy to make mistakes (like cu...

Okay, lets back-pedal a bit :-) With the LEDs, first confirm that they're actually working. Get the LED, put it in series with a resistor of some kind (a 12V globe will do), and connect to the battery to confirm that you have a working device, and also which side is the positive (cathode) and negati...

Re: Changing dash cluster lights
Yep, the speedo cable is definitely tight! On my 5-speed conversion, it's about at it's maximum limit (though I did get a new cable made longer since the upgrade)! And yes, LEDs are most definitely polarity sensitive. Put them on backwards, and they definitely won't work. It might pay to double chec...
