Re: upgrading/changing front end GC galant
Mate, it's a 1970's car. Major components like strut assemblies haven't been available new for 25+ years. "Good 2nd hand" is as good as you are going to get, unless you get something custom made.

Re: GD Sedan / GC & GD Coupe HID Conversion. Amazing.
Have you got them switched so that you can just run the 2 outer low beams (rather than 4 low beams) ? You might find that 2 low beams only is the legal requirement ... pretty sure that's the case in Victoria, anyway. I think HID conversions into hi/lo lights are technically illegal anyway, unless it...

I have a stripped EGR 4G32 block sitting on the bench .... I'll take a pic of the top.
Would be interested to compare it to the non-EGR ("narrow head") version

Is there actually any difference between the blocks, or is the difference just the EGR (wide) vs. non-EGR heads ?if you are looking to run an EGR head on a non EGR block

Re: pedal goes to the floor on the first pump?
I used to have a similar problem (although not quite as bad as pedal going to foor ... just soft on first application). If it's going to the floor, you have a MAJOR amount of air in the system somewhere ! Might even be sucking air, if not leaking fluid ? Things to check (not in any particular order)...

What makes you think it was a detonation issue ? The car never noticeably "pinged" .... and was unlikely to running stock 8.5:1 compression & 98RON fuel. Although the car did get VERY hot during an event early last year (due to a blocked radiator) ... and though the headgasket didn't l...

No idea ...... I have never looked at a GA/GB drum brake front end.Are you sure you can just bolt GC/GD disk and caliper onto GA/GB strut? Or is that only applicable if the GA has disks already?

Re: advice and knowledge assistance for lb circuit car
Okay, so the Sigma struts I have a 51mm measured with a vernier What is funny is I also measured the GTO, guessing they would be the same as Lancer and early Galants but they also measured 51mm and the GTO is 100% stock. Either the GTO got the bigger struts or my coil over Sigma struts are Galant, ...

the strutt was also cut at the base and rewelded where it meets stub assembly dont know why? Probably to increase available negative camber ? Why not ? The GA & GB Galants were unboosted ex-factory, and adding a booster doesn't having any impact on braking (it just reduces pedal pressure)

You don't even need to change struts - just bolt GC/GD disc & caliper onto GA/GB strut. Could probably even get away without changing master cylinder. Stub axle is the same. There's nothing wrong with the GA/GB disc brakes anyway .... if they are well maintained & have good pads in them. Onl...

Re: headlight conversions
You need to check exactly what your alternator capacity is (it will be stamped on it) but sounds like it's 55A. If your lights on high beam are 2x150 + 2x60(?) = 420watts => draw is 35A roughly (probably a smidgin less, seeing your battery should be putting out 13.8V not 12V ... so that gives a litt...

Re: headlight conversions
Note that the "landing light" type sealed beams are actually not road legal, and aren't all that good anyway (if that's what you are planning on using). A set of 100W H1 halogen inners will give you a much better result in terms of light, and are no more expensive I wouldn't think ? Don't ...

Put a 32/36 DFV on it then (or a 34ADM ?) ... something progressive, anyway. The 38DGAS is designed as a performance carb, not for economical cruising !shuggy wrote: I just want Ok performance and less fuel expenditure.

No idea in your market what the price should be ! New or used ? A DFV or DGV is only worth about $50-$75 from a wrecker here (they were a common carb on Ford Escorts, Capris, Cortinas etc). Expect to spend another $50 or so on a gasket kit etc to put through it (any 2nd hand carb will need pulling d...

Re: Quick Carb question: 73 CG Wagon
No problem.
Car generally ran very well with this jetting ..... good fuel economy on the highway (at around 95km/h in 4th the secondary wasn't even open) but reasonably good power when needed.
If anything, it probably ran a little bit rich at WOT, but that didn't bother me being a rally car

Re: Quick Carb question: 73 CG Wagon
Ive seen both 34ADM webbers and 32/36 DGAV webbers being used on 4G32's, i myself am about to rebuild and fit a 34ADM to my 4G32 Actually you want a 32/36 DFV , not DGV ...... otherwise the throttle opens the wrong way. I agree that a 34ADM is probably too big for a stockish 4G32 .... although good...

Absolutely Dave ... Another thing that may or may not be an issue, is that the all-drum cars have slightly larger rear wheel cylinders than the disc-front cars ... so there may be a bit more rear bias on the brakes after the conversion ? Whether it was enough to be a problem would be a "wait &a...

Re: Tommy's GB Restoration
Or just bolt a set of Galant struts &/or disks onto it. You don't need to change struts to do a drum -> disc conversion. Whereabouts are you ? I have a couple of spare sets of stock GA/GB Galant struts with disc brakes (discs will need replacing & calipers rebuilding though). You can have a ...
