Re: I Rolled the Wagon!!!
I was going to put wheels on it, but I would need 6 of them at $25 each. Decided to leave them off as it can be used without them - and i can put the money towards other things.

Re: NSW cruise (SYD)
How does this sound? People who want to meet up in Sydney can meet at the Thornleigh Maccas as has already been mentioned. From here they make their way North to the twin servos via the Old Pacific for an interesting drive along the twisties. The Newcastle, Central Coast, etc guys can meet up at the...

Re: I Rolled the Wagon!!!
Should be plenty strong enough, it is made out of 75x75x4mm, and 65x65x2.5 RHS. Where the brackets bolt to the axle ends i have drilled heaps of holes so i can adjust the height/centre point. Where it is set at the moment i can rotate it a complete 360 degrees by myself without any problems at all.

Re: I Rolled the Wagon!!!
Plans are to get it fixed up and back together so my wife can have the Corolla when she gets her P's, and i can drive the wagon around. I'm still undecided on the colour, it's a toss up between the original Turquoise metallic, or Fiji blue as found on Starions. As for my 'climate controlled workshop...

I Rolled the Wagon!!!
But thats a good thing. :D Spent the last couple of weekends building a Rotisserie so I could work on the underside of the wagon, mainly the rear quarter panels. Finally got it finished today and put the wagon on it. Rear is bolted up with a standard towbar. The front mount is an old crossmember whi...

I have a gold 1:30 scale Yonezawa in average condition, along with a bunch of mint Matchbox Scorps (actually called Galants). Still have the boxes for the matchbox cars as well. I also have a couple more Matchbox Scorps and a Tomy Starion that are a bit second hand, chips in the paint, etc. http://i...

Sydney to Newcastle sounds great to me if i can bring the Corolla. Some more inspiration to get the wagon finished could help.

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!
You can't use Gemini centres - they have the wrong bolt spacing. Datsun would fit, but the hubcaps may not. Galant wheels have a couple of studs to hold the hubcaps on. You may be better off getting hold of a set from another Galant. At least then you can have them widened and still be able to drive...

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!
You should be able to do them cheaper than $1000. When i had mine done they cost $77 each if i supplied a brand new outer, or an extra $22 ($99) if I supplied a secondhand rim with the required outer. New chrome 14x8 outers were about $75. In total the fronts cost $99 each as i used secondhand outer...

Re: new to this site, old school car enthused, ready to drive!
yeh i'll keep the hub caps as well, but i want wider wheels, there's absolutely no lateral grip :( cheese cutters aren't good enough. Have you considered having the original wheels widened? They take the original centre out, then weld it into a new/wider outer section. You can keep using the origin...

Those rims look great on most old school cars. I'd go with the platinum colour on a blue car.

Re: LA lancer, whats a good diff upgrade? sigma?.?.?
I'm positive the diff I got off Dan is an 8 bolt diff out of a GE Scorp. Axles and splines, and even center appear the same as the GD Galant sedan diff i have, however the axles are approx 20mm longer each side, and the wheel bearings have a bigger outside diameter than the galant bearings. They loo...

Re: LA lancer, whats a good diff upgrade? sigma?.?.?
What is it with you and axles Dan? I pulled the axles out of that diff I got off you on the weekend. One of them was good, the other had a slight twist near the end of the spline like the 2 broken ones you are holding.

Re: How to stop rust?
Best way to stop it rusting is put it in a shed. :) Everything else is a compromise. I'm working on that myself, but a 3 car garage isn't cheap, and even then i won't be able to fit them all in. I'm looking at about 8-10 thousand for the shed, another 4 for a slab, plus more for earthworks, stormwa...

I have to go and speak with Athol myself. Need to get some info on what i will need to do to get him to engineer the Galant wagon. Can't see it having too many issues myself as it will basically be all Scorpion running gear in an older shell.

Wagon bumper onto Coupe
I've noticed a few posts recently with talk of trying to fit a wagon rear bumper onto a coupe. While Dad was over today i grabbed one of my wagon bumpers and we held it against the coupe bumper to compare them. 1st problem - the wagon bumper is a lot longer - requiring the bumper to be shortened, al...

Re: If this is a Jap Narrow Block 5 Speed... whats this???
I dare say that one is from an earlier vehicle - probably the one on the right as these had the shifter position closer to the engine. The one on the left would be from a GJ or later car with the more rearward shifter position. The smaller input shaft i have generally found behind 2 litre engines (i...

Re: Converting Wideblock 4G54 to Narrow Block
9.5mm is way too big to be drilling for an m10 thread. The general rule for working out drill size for a metric thread is to take the thread diameter, then minus the thread pitch to get the drill size. In this case 10mm - 1.25mm which gives 8.75mm Metric drills are generally available in 0.1mm size ...

Sounds like they didn't have the steering box centered when they put the pitman arm on. It's on a spline like the steering wheel and can go on in a heap of different positions.

The springs off the later Scorps (2 bolt strut) will swap with the Starion springs. As standard the Starion springs are slightly lower than the Scorp springs.

Re: 16x8 +0 will they fit?
The widened steelies i had for the rear were 14x8, around +0 offset with a 265/50/14. They fitted good on the GJ onwards Scorps, but seemed to stick out a bit on the early Scorp. Still had heaps of room on the inside (over an inch easily). The fronts were 14x7, around +10 offset if i remember correc...

I had a look in the shed today and i have a NOS grill there that it is identical to yours. I'll be going to mum and dad's tomorrow to do some more cleaning so i'll take it with me and drop it off at your place if i get the chance.

Can you get a long screwdriver, piece of metal, etc through the grill to move the latch?

I too have seen problems with the Nolathane and Noltec bushes, however this wasn't under normal circumstances. I had rebushed a few suspension parts and driven the car around for 6-12 months before parting it out. While they were in the car they were great. I kept the rebushed suspension parts and h...
