Re: MSD boost/retard system
Yep got the 6BTM on mine. Best mod I've done. It's been running trouble free for 10 years. But I did blow a coil a year ago. It runs better with no vacuum advance, locked machanical advance and set at 20 to 25 deg BTDC. And I also run a Magna dizzy without the module. You just solder into the mag pi...

Re: 4g54 main bearings
G'day mrg The grooved bearing goes in the block (top) and the plain bearing in the cap (bottom). The grooved bearing will have a hole in it that lines up with the bearing oil supply. The plain bearing is on the bottom as that is where the maximum load occurs and has the maximum surface area to take ...

G'day Sigmaproject.
I've got a couple of new genuine cables with the screw adjust I could part with if you want a spare.

I have to agree with the other posts. There must be something wrong with head or block mating surface. I have had no problems at all with standard cheap ass gaskets and stock (reused) head bolts and I've been 15 psi for years.
Good luck and let us know when you find out what is going on.

Re: Timing chain rattle
You can adjust the balance shaft chain from the little 2 screw cover on the timing cover. If you look at tubby's photo. That adjustment is there from behind the little cover. Just use a screwdriver to move the adjuster and a 10mm socket to lock it.

Re: Where to buy automotive paint
I would consider that a big job. There will be blending required. And that is a bit of an art.
If it's your first big job. I'd say you could do the prep work yourself and pay a spray painter to do the top coat and blending.
Have you done painting before?

If you are just doing a small repair Supercheap mixes paint and can put it in a spray can for you. But if you are doing a big job and are set up with a compressor and equipment I'd go to a specialist for 2pak. If you google auto paint suppliers you'll have one near by I'm sure.

Tubby nice pick up! Yes it is a GN Dissy. I'm running a MSD 6 BTM. Just like a 6A but with boost retard. Best thing the engine ever got. It took a while to work out that it runs like shit with ANY mechanical OR vacuum advance. But after I locked the mechanical and disconnected the vacuum advance she...

No Sigmaproject you are not the only one. I'm still running the standard'ish draw through set up on my 81 Turbo. Just fine tuning after an engine rebuild at the moment. I've just fitted some flat top pistons (only because I ordered dished from the US and they gave me flats) but it was a good thing c...

Not having a roller cam or ever seeing one before is the reason for the question at the start.

Re: Where to buy 215mm Hi-Perf Clutch for Astron?
You sure can. I was running a PBR heavy duty clutch in my turbo for years but it had a heavy pedal and would only last 5K before it started to slip. I've only just fitted a Exeedy HD this week. I've put less than 100kms on it so far but so far so good. The Exeedy looks better quality of friction mat...

Re: Roller rockers on non-roller cam??
Hey guys, An update on how I went. Well it does run but I was hoping for a quiet engine and that's not what I got. Sure it runs but there's a fair bit of noise coming from the valve gear. It looks to me like the normal cam lobes are a smaller overall diameter and there is about 8mm of free play in t...

Re: Roller rockers on non-roller cam??
Ok looks like no one has tried it yet. I'll give it a go and see what happens. Can't see a major problem and it's easy to change out a set of rockers. I do like the Elephant foot idea and will go down that road if the rollers are problematic. I'll let you know how it goes. (although the engine is mo...

Re: Roller rockers on non-roller cam??
But what I'm asking is has anyone tried using the rollers before? And if so did it work? I've looked at the "Street Machine" 308 Holden V8 web sites and you can get roller hydraulic lifters that drop straight onto a standard flat tappet cam and I'm thinking if they can, why can't we on our...

Roller rockers on non-roller cam??
Hey guys, I was wondering if I'm going to have any issues running the roller rockers off a M7 head on an M3 head with non-roller Cam? Back story is I'm rebuilding my 2.6 Turbo with flat tops, 1mm over size and a ported M3 head I've had lying around for a while. I'm taking off the M7 head I was runni...

This car was from back in 1990.
I know this cause this guy (or one of his mates) stole my car and did a number job on it. Yes THAT IS RIGHT take a FACTORY TURBO and number it for a 2lt auto. I found it and got it back but it's a long story.

Re: Firmer ride for the sigma
I use Koni adjustable strut inserts in the front of my GH, but have found that gas shocks in the rear are much to firm. With Munro Gas GT shocks in the rear are like having 4x2 timber in place of shocks. The car jumps around bumpy corners and rides like crap. So I use standard hydraulic in the rear.

Re: brakes
You can do it! but changing the diff is easier.
I've done it, But.
You have to use the alloy brackets and grind them out to fit and also fit spacers for the axels.
I had to cause I'm in Cairns and we have no wreckers to speak of.
Best of luck.

Nope. I think its a waste of time. I don't like the look of the rubber spoiler on the GE/GH cause they are just so pretty without them.
I;ve always liked the look of the High Roof Sigma Wagon. A Turbo 4G43 in one would be so cool.

Re: Who built the best engine? Why?
The Best Engine. Umm. I may have a different opinion than most. THE BEST ENGINE BY FAR IS THE "GAS TURBINE". Where a piston engine will give you a power stroke every 2 or 4 strokes the turbine is constantly on power. (I've been thinking of how to use a helicopter engine and gearbox in one ...

The Booster conversion was done by a place up here in Cairns called Knights Brake Service. It was an over the counter mod. The front housing of the booster needed to be modified with wider bolt spacing, the VT adaptor and an extended actuator rod. Cost $200. I was told that its the same mod they do ...

You can do an upgrade to large brakes, as I have to VT callipers and rotors that fit into Turbo wheels. Using the 7/8" Master cylinder from the GH is no good for the VT twin piston callipers. I tried it with the standard Master cylinder but the peddle went to the floor and the rear locked befor...

No going to be a straight swap. GH and GE's have a lip at the front, where GN and GJs are straight and meet up with the top of the nose / grill.
So no.

Yeah it's all well and good to get cheaper rego BUT there are to many restrictions for my liking.
