Yes......All GA to GD steering boxes do interchange. It is possible to adjust the free play, but if the box is at all rough in operation, the worm drive gears may be impact damaged. You overlooked 4G63GS. (SOHC 8 valve, twin carbs) Sold in NZ in Sapporo GSR. Same 9.5:1 pistons as early L200/L300 in Oz. Carbs, manifold and cam becoming difficult to locate in NZ. I converted my GB and a LB more than 20 years ago. More pwer and torque than 4G52GS and completely reliable..............

I have worked on early Canters with 2.4 Astron 4G53 (non-balance shaft)....I may have some specs on it. There may be some of these still around.

L300 4WD and Starwagon of early '90s had injected 2.4 litre 4G64 SOHC 8 valve. Current L300 has 4G64 SOHC 16 valve

No, the valves are too big, but I think the springs may be able to interchange........I'll need to look up some old manuals I have.

The blue I would say are 4G37 as they have larger diameter valves. I have a feeling 4G63 SOHC 8 valve, as per L300, have the same spring. I may have info on that......

its not the head gaskets mate, i think the deck of the block isnt straight. get a propper straight edge and some feeler gauges and check for warpage. I used to always use genuine OEM rocker gaskets.(Can you still buy them?) Many others don't sit in the radius on the cover correctly.............
