Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

As always, keep changing my mind - bit unsure about EFI conversion now. Got the Magna home and found out the head is knackered (warped, heat cracks all thru it) so ended up stripping out the glass and selling it for the same price I bought the car for and sent the rest to SIMS as not much else was w...

Re: What to strip off a TR Magna for EFI Conversion?

Ok thanks for that. Had a feeling that the Magna ECU would be near-on useless, but will see how I go. The only reason for the upgrade to EFI is due to the fact that the Zenith carby has kicked the bucket, and this seemed a logical upgrade :)

Will start stripping later this week! Thanks!

Re: What to strip off a TR Magna for EFI Conversion?

No offence taken mate, but if you could link me to these illustrious threads, that would be great. I know that there won't be a "do this and bang ya done" thread, but just something a little more clear than 4769 pages of chit chat with the odd post about the topic at hand would be nice :) ...

What to strip off a TR Magna for EFI Conversion?

Got my hands on a TR Magna (pretty sure it's a TR Magna). Just wanting to know exactly what I will need to strip off it to convert my Sigma Turbo (2L) to EFI? Obvious things like: EFI Head Magna Intake w/ throttle body ECU Engine Loom But what about sensors/etc? What else do I need to rip off this s...

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Well I didn't get that Sigma, but however, I did manage to get a donor car of a different kind :) Pretty sure it's a TN Magna. It's got the 4-pot EFI motor with the head/etc that I need to convert this sucker to EFI :) Will pick it up within the next week or so - it's got a defect for 'excessive oil...

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Yeah, popped as in a dud ;) It's running on 3 cyls at the moment, so could just be something mundane.

Hopefully find out sooner than later if I've got it or not...

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Depends how stuffed it is. If it's just a set of bearings or something small, then I'll use the bottom end :) If it's more sinister than that, more than welcome to it.

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Funny you should mention that - think I've found one!

I've actually come across a few, and was even willing to drive one back across the country to get one without rust. The one I've found is local, with a popped 2.6L.

Will know later in the week if I've got it or not, fingers crossed!!

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Yeah there is actually, and it's not good :( Pulled the roof lining down today as I wanted to see how much rust is in the roof, and it's absolutely riddled with rust. All the support beams are rusted out, the skin on the roof at the rear has rusted along the top of the rear window, and the tops of t...

GJ/GK Diff into GH? Bolt in or not even close?

Have picked up a GJ/GK parts car, which has a good diff in it. If it makes any difference, it's a 2.6L Astron I with a slug-o-matic behind it. Will I be able to swap the diff's straight over (even if it means swapping suspension components too) or should I not even bother? If I can, I might weld it ...

Re: Jap 5spd + clutch + flywheel convertion questions.

Yeah, 2.0L :) Pick it up tomorrow. Also, will the Sigma thermostat fit into a Magna thermostat housing? The Sigma kinda needs one, but if they don't fit, I won't bother with it until I go EFI. If they do fit, I'll get one and swap it between the manifolds.

Re: Jap 5spd + clutch + flywheel convertion questions.

Ok just ordered one, on the system that the shop uses, it's listed as an "MMC 5spd suit 80-82"... sounds about right to me! If not, it'll go back :)

Re: Jap 5spd + clutch + flywheel convertion questions.

Bit off topic, but not quite...

My little Siggy Turbo has the Jap 5spd in it with the factory 2L donk - any idea what clutch I need to get? Or even a part number?

I realise it'd be worth more in original spec, but with it as far gone as it is, not much would be original anyway :(

Re: 82 Sigma Turbo - Build #375

Finally fixed the stereo up today, redid the wiring and added the missing crossover back into the drivers door, sounds sooooo mucn better!! Also put what I believe is the fuel restrictor back onto it, appears to run alot leaner and smoother, doesn't choke as much. Going to get a few quotes on panel ...

Haha, never would have thought you'd be able to get a Sigma all crossed up and spinning both wheels... mind you... it was wet*.

Also, should be able to get some pics tonight, need to clean the car out first thou, it's pretty grot.

Re: Why hello there!

Should be picking the car up any day now! :) First thing on the agenda is a new windscreen, then time to attack the rust!

Having done a little more research, I've decided that should I go down the 2.6L EFI path, I will use the Magna ECU with an SAFC instead, much easier to tune.

Re: Diff choices for a GH Sigma?

Any idea what'd be required to get the R31 diff into the car? I'm assuming R31 Skyline, not R31 Pintara (Pintara has drum brakes, Skyline is disc).

Diff choices for a GH Sigma?

Keen to go for an LSD Diff in the Siggy, but unsure what setup would be best bang for buck both money and time (installation) wise?

Have heard that VL Turbo diff's are a good choice, but what is required to get them to fit snug under the bum of a GH?

What are my other, easy, options?

Don't know about it being my daily, as this is my pride and joy  It's a 2002 Holden WH Statesman International, have had the car for about a hear now and in my time it's only seen 17,000km's. When I purchased it, it only had 80,000km's on it so for it's age its got bugger all k's. I've had an ...

Re: Why hello there!

Undecided at this stage - the thought of a 2.6L bottom-end, with Magna head and EFI gear to the side is mighty tempting, especially considering that finding someone to tune a PowerFC tuned over here to suit the Magna ECU would be a piece of cake :) But... keeping original and restoring it to former ...

Re: Why hello there!

Yeah, I've been told that by many people and by going by my own research, there's only a handful left that are still getting around in original (or even close to) form. There’s a few people over here who I know personally who have owned Sigma Turbo's in days gone by, one of which works at a performa...
