Re: a couple of driveline questions
Yes it is Starion gearbox......... When Ron was rallying it, (Not when his son owned it) it had a factory close ratio GroupA starion gearbox in it.

Re: Flat pistons in 2.6 carby
LEE, More than likely we know each other. I've got in its last spec, Sleeved block, the special teflon coated pistons,etc....... It still has the same throttle bodies and that ugly square tube fuel rail on it, to. Ron still has the GroupA Starion. Although it hasn't turned a wheel in anger for a cou...

Re: Flat pistons in 2.6 carby
23 years ago when i was an eager 4th year apprentice at coltspeed , Ron owned an ex group C LB lancer (converted to sports sedan when Grp C died), we ran forged flat tops , series1 head with series 2 valves (aftermarket flat back stainless) ported head , custom big cam and adjustable deg wheel, no ...

Re: Flat pistons in 2.6 carby
Why is everyone using series 2 heads on NA motors........ They dont work! We use the series 1 head (approx 55cc from memory) as using a series 2 head (approx72cc??) didn't give enough gas speed/velocity threw the chambers. We've seen 310hp on the engine dyno many (read like 20) years ago with 10.25:...

Re: Flat pistons in 2.6 carby
I've got 10.25:1 with Series1 head, block and custom Coltspeed pistons. Series1 head on Series2 should give you approx 12:1. I'm sure its been covered elsewhere here, for more info. You have to be pretty careful with you ignition timing above 10.5:1, as they tend to spit out head gaskets, if you not.

Re: Steering box shorter ratios?
Never found a need for it with my race cars or road cars...........
I would suggest there was probably a special box done for the factory rally cars, but don't quote me on that.
The datsun boys shorten the steering arms for the same result.

Re: Fibreglass Lancer panels
Cheers Nath, Its been 10 years since I had the old LA! I've kept parts of it, engine etc......... The only reason I got rid of it was it was so full of bog, I couldn't take anymore weight out of it without a full strip back and rebuild! I'm doing an LB/C just to be different. Should be a good thing ...

Re: Fibreglass Lancer panels
There's not a lot to be gained with glass panels on an LA. It needs to ultra thin for any real advantage. Maybe 4-6kg. A loy of aftermarket glass panels are actually heavier than the steel ones you start with! An LC on the other hand will lose between 12-15kg with this treatment. Keep the info coming.

Just Checking............. (H) That was aimed at me? Sorry, I didn't realize my posts was that unclear? Yes, Galant A arms are the same length as Lancer and early sigma arms. I was not stating Lancer and sigma arms were also A arms, There would be no point me talking about installing radius rod moun...

Re: adjusting toe (camber) in GC sedan
If your chasing a bit of castor, which always helps. swap the control arms from side to side. i.e. passengers side on drivers side and vise-versa. The control arms are not an equal triangle, they are off set. The only downside is, you may have to trim a bit of the front guard away for the tyres to c...

Nath........... LC coupe Cheater......... I noticed that in the rules the other day. Although the cage doesn't comply to IPRA spec either, so it may get run as a sports sedan. Rallyant......... Coltspeed and Ron will still sell you the cam for it. Its the same as in all his motors. And i'm not oblig...

My old Ipra LA went along the lines of this and weighted in at 887kg before you put my fat arse in it. Laptimes (on AOO8RS's) EC 1.49.93 OPGP 1.21.3 OP Sth 49.8 WP (old circuit) 1.14.7 converted to new circuit works out to be about the 1.10 mark. Current control tyres are about 2.5 seconds a lap fas...

Hey Nath. It was built by a mate of mine, prior to Peter owning it. It was NEVER owned by anyone at Coltspeed! but Ron did a bit of work on it when Peter had it. It used to live in the same shed as my IPRA Lancer before Peter bought it. Import 2.6l starion motor and gearbox, commodore struts and bra...

Re: spun rod bearing engine #4
Its a fairly common problem if your using the factory oil pump. I seen it a number times in a curcuit racing enviroment. Engine makes 70-80psi of pressure with no Lateral load on the car, but then drops to 10-20psi once lateral load is applied to the car........ and boom, dead engine! There is a spe...
